Rookies

We are very excited to announce that due to popular demand, we will be resuming our Rookies program! The Rookies class is a rocking introduction to music for first time aspiring musicians ages 5-7 years old. The class equips students with the core motor skills, basic concepts, and motivation to move into our Rock 101 sessions. We introduced this class after finding many parents interested in enrolling a child in lesson, but then finding the lesson room setting far too intimidating to get off to a good start. By giving our students a head start with initial concepts, they move into the lesson room with more confidence and motivation.

Our mission for this class is to introduce and excite kids to want to learn music. We spend most of the session with percussion instruments designed for younger students - shakers, tambourines, hand drums and boomwackers. The classes mix motor skills, arts and crafts, and listening activities to introduce concepts like:

• Counting and keeping time

• Understanding pitch and learning the musical alphabet

• Basic Notation - whole notes, half notes, quarter notes

• Natural notes, sharps and flats

• Music genres
  

Students will also learn basics for how guitars, bass guitars, pianos, drums and even the voice work to produce sounds.

As students display the ability to understand concepts and show an eagerness to move to a more disciplined study with a specific instrument, we graduate them into Rock 101. Rock 101 students begin basic private instruction and weekly rehearsal sessions.

Classes are limited to a max of 6 students, are 60 minutes in duration, and follow a rolling curriculum. Students can join anytime as concepts are revisited frequently to ensure students understand the core concepts before moving to the next level. Students can enroll anytime as long as spots are available.

For our spring and summer months - May through September - classes will run Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:30pm. Depending on demand, we may add another time. Students must attend the same session each week and makeup sessions are not available at this time.
